We have 4 floors in our old 1860’s dusty house, it’s not huge, but is vertical so it’s easier to have 2 vacuums. This house has has original pumpkin pine floors, wool carpets and marble floors so it’s mix of everything on the floors.
We’ve tried many brands, but found Miele is by far the best at cleaning the mix of everything. They are quiet, have extremely great suction and have lasted WAY longer than any of the other brands we’ve tried. Both vacuums we replaced still worked perfectly still having strong suction, so they really do last for a long time.
It was time to replace our old Miele Marin and purchased a new Guard L1 Allfloor. I was VERY impressed with the new design of their canisters and how much lighter it is while still feeling substantial and not toy-like. It has super strong suction while still being quiet. I was most impressed with the redesigned handle and how the dust brush is integrated into it and slides out! No more rummaging around the trunk! I like that there’s a smaller space for the 2-in- crevice/upholstery nozzle.
I liked the AllFloor so much that I bought this Guard1 to replace our aging C3 Brilliant (Miele’s former top “luxury” model) The Brilliant was looking a little less “brilliant” with a scratched up handle from years of use and the suction wand was a little hard to retract after extended. But it still worked perfectly, it was just time for a new one.
Since we have thick wool carpets, and a dog, I prefer an electric driven brush rather than an air driven one so one of them has to have that.
Out of my two options in the Guard L1 series with electric brushes, this seemed to be the best fit for us without features we don’t need. When I unboxed this one it has THE SAME HANDLE and telescoping want the old ones had! They redesigned everything but used the same old wand and same old power handle with NO Integrated brush! And worse, they give you a dusting brush, but it’s even less handy than before when it stored right in the trunk. Now, I guess you have to remember to put it in your pocket when you get the vacuum out of the closet. LOL I also wasn’t happy with the lowest level of filter included with this model, so I just bought a HEPA filter and had it the next day.
All in all though, I still give this 5 stars since it does what a vacuum needs to do. It has strong suction, i easy to maneuver with the new 4 wheel system, and is much lighter than the ones we replaced. The AllFloor would have received 6 stars if that were possible.

The Miele Guard L1 has impressed me in almost every way. It’s noticeably quieter than other canister vacuums I’ve used, which makes cleaning a lot less annoying, especially in a house with a baby/pets/thin walls. Despite being quiet, it doesn’t sacrifice power at all — the adjustable suction settings give you massive power when you need it and a gentler touch for delicate surfaces. The attachments are intuitive and easy to switch between, making it simple to tackle different surfaces without any hassle. On top of that, it’s compact and easy to store and maneuver around the house, which is a big plus compared to bulkier canister vacuums. Overall a fantastic combination of performance and convenience.

I’ve had a Miele for 14 years before the powerhead burned up. Decided to invest in a new one as 225 for a powerhead was a gamble on one that old. I like to use a vacuum rather than a dust mop, and I have carpet as well. Did a bit of research and decided this one was the one for me. I did keep my old swivel parquet floor attachment as it fits. haven’t used the floor head that came with this one much, so jury is still out. The new powerhead is HEAVY. Takes a while to learn to maneuver it well, but it really gets the deep pile carpet cleaner. Love the longer cord and hose. Overall, happy with the Miele Guard1. The only reason for the 4 stars is because it does take muscle to work the powerhead. Quieter than my old one, which is pleasing to husband.
